StrataSociety

Est. 2016 · Independent & volunteer-run

We are people who never stopped loving dinosaurs.

Strata Society is a small, welcoming community for amateur paleontology fans — readers, sketchers, model-builders and museum wanderers who like to talk about deep time and the animals that filled it.

What we actually do

Reading circle

Every month we pick one paper, book chapter or new discovery and pull it apart together — no degree required, just curiosity and good questions.

Sketch & model nights

Bring a pencil or a half-finished model. We share reference, argue about feathers, and help each other get the posture right.

Museum trips

We organise informal visits to collections and travelling exhibitions, then compare notes over coffee afterwards.

From the field notes

Why size estimates keep changing

We spent a session working through how a single new vertebra can rewrite a length estimate — and why "biggest ever" headlines age so badly.

Reading a bone bed

A visiting preparator walked us through what a jumble of scattered bones can tell you about a flood, a drought, or a very bad day.
